A Shaded Side Passage: An Atwell Turf Cleaning Case Study

This Atwell job was a side-return passage rather than an open backyard, a strip of artificial turf running the length of the house between the rendered blockwork wall and the Colorbond boundary fence. Passages like this get very little direct sun and almost no airflow, so they hold moisture and collect leaf litter long after the rest of a garden has dried out, and the pile had gone flat along the single line of foot traffic past the gas unit and tap. Michelle booked it as a straightforward turf clean, with no specific complaint beyond wanting the strip properly maintained rather than just swept over.

We ran the standard 4-stage process across the full length of the strip. First the deep debris clear: the Roll&Comb 502E-AU lifts leaves, grit and broken-down organic matter out from between the fibres into its 40-litre collection bag, which matters more in an enclosed, shaded run like this where debris rots down into the infill instead of blowing away. Then the fibre lift, the same machine combing the flattened pile back upright along the walked centre line. Stage three is the bio-enzymatic treatment (P-Off) across the whole surface, breaking down uric acid and the odour-causing bacteria that establish in damp, low-airflow spots, a hygiene step as much as an odour one on a job like this. Finally a full rinse down to carry the treatment through the infill and clear any residue as the strip dries.

The pile came back upright and the colour evened out along the strip, most noticeably down the previously flattened centre line. The debris that had worked into the infill was pulled out rather than raked to the edges, and the rinse left the passage clean with no residue underfoot.
